VILLANOVA – Overall 2 – 1, 1 – 0 CAA

Result – Won – 31 – 10 vs. Rhode Island at Villanova Stadium

John Robertson – CAA Rookie of the Week

Summary – Villanova ran for 244 yards in their CAA opener.  It was the third straight game that the Wildcats ran for over 200 yards, the first time they have done that since 1992.  For the second straight game Villanova overcame a halftime deficit shutting out their opponent in the second half.  Rhode Island held a 10 – 7 lead at intermission.  Villanova scored 24 straight points to win 31 – 10.  Freshman Quarterback John Robertson ran for 63 yards and went 14 – 22 for 171 yards.  He scored one rushing touchdown.  For his efforts Robertson was named the CAA Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week.  Sophomore running backs Kevin Monangai and Austin Medley ran for 55 and 41 yards.  Monangai scored 2 touchdowns and Medley one.  Senior wide receiver Norman White caught 7 passes for 88 yards.

Next Game – September 22 vs. Penn at Franklin Field

PENN – Overall 0 –1, Ivy League 0 – 0

Result – Lost 28 – 21 at Lafayette

Summary – Penn committed 8 turnovers in their opening game loss to Lafayette.  However, down 28 – 7 the Red and Blue mounted a comeback that fell short when Lafayette intercepted a pass at the 50 yard line with 1:19 to play.

Penn had 7 passes picked off, 5 for Senior quarterback Billy Ragone and Andrew Holland had 2.  Senior running back Lyle Marsh caught 2 touchdown passes.  He had 8 receptions for 66 yards.  Wide receiver Conner Scott caught 12 passes for 161 yards.  For his effort Scott was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll.  Ragone ran for Penn’s other touchdown.
