Villanova Improves To 2 – 0

Games of September 8, 2018

TEMPLE – Overall 0 – 2, 0 – 0 American Athletic Conference

Result – Lost 36 – 29 vs. Buffalo at the Linc

Summary – The season looked to be a promising one for the Cherry and White.  However, they find themselves 0-2 for the campaign losing to Buffalo.  Looking for win number one, they head to College Park to meet Big Ten opponent Maryland.  There have been good plays, but the mistakes continue to hurt the Owls. The two interceptions resulted in touchdowns for the visitors.  Temple fell behind, but got some momentum when quarterback Frank Nutile launched a 39-yard scoring toss to Branden Mack who went up over four Buffalo defenders to snare the score as the half ended making it 12-7 Bulls.  Nutile started the second half scoring hitting Randle Jones with a 44-yard strike, the first touchdown of Jones’ career.  Buffalo got the lead back before a blocked punt for a touchdown, and two-point conversion evened the score for Temple at 22.  The two-point conversion was the result of a reverse to Ventell Bryant who was stopped, then flipped to the ball to Kenny Yeboah in the endzone.  Call it the North-Philly Special.  However, a penalty on the Owls gave the Bulls a short field that resulted in the go-ahead score.  Temple evened the game again when Mack caught his second scoring toss of the game, one of three touchdown passes for Nutile.  However, Buffalo answered right back with the help of a roughing the passer penalty on a third down play.  The drive ended with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Tyree Jackson to Anthony Johnson, the third of the day for Jackson, for the final margin of victory.  Another meaningful stat was Temple was 3 of 14 on Third Down Conversions.  Also, the Owls gave up more than 150 yards rushing for the second consecutive game.
