The Saint Joseph’s Hawks Men’s and Drexel Women’s Teams Advance
March 13, 2026 –
Two Philly teams played in their conference tournaments and both teams advanced to their semifinal round. In Pittsburgh the Saint Joseph’s Hawks men won their Atlantic 10 quarterfinal game against Davidson. The Drexel women eliminated Elon in Washington. Let’s take a closer look.
#3 Saint Joseph’s 70 #6 Davidson Wildcats 58
The Hawks move on defeating the Wildcats 70 – 58 and will meet #2 VCU in the semifinal round. This is the third straight year that St. Joe’s will be playing in the Atlantic 10 semifinal. Jaiden Glover-Toscano who had a game-best 19 points, led a trio of SJU players who scored in double-figures.
A close contest in the first half broke open in the second behind two 12 – 2 runs by the Hawks caused by a combination of offense and defense.
“I thought there were stretches in that game that we took Davidson out of what they wanted to do,” said Saint Joseph’s Coach Steve Donahue. “And when we do that, you can feel the energy go. I think we’re very good in transition. Those both stretches were fueled by the defense. And when that happens, I think you see us move the ball and share it and all those things that you want a good offense to do.”
Justice Ajogbor scored 18 points on 8 of 10 shooting. Derek Simpson contributed 16 points and was a perfect 7 for 7 from the free throw line. He handed out a game-best 6 assists. Austin Williford took down a game and season-high 10 rebounds.
For Davidson Josh Scovens scored 15 points and had 9 rebounds. Roberts Blums added 13 points.
“The goal isn’t just to get to the Semifinals again,” said Ajogbor. “So we’re kind of looking forward to tomorrow, but we know what we’ve got to do to get where we want to get to.”
#3 Drexel 68 #6 Elon 53
The Drexel Dragons move on the CAA semifinal round defeating Elon. They will face #10 Hofstra. This is the ninth time in ten seasons that the Dragons have gone this far in the tournament. Amaris Baker led the team with 16 points while Bria Watkins contributed 13 points. Molly Rullo added 10 points.
Drexel caused 22 Elon turnovers and turned those miscues into 29 points.
The Dragons led 48 – 43 going into the fourth quarter. They broke the game open with a 14 – 2 run at the start of the final 10 minutes.
“I think we started moving the ball,” said Drexel Coach Amy Mallon. “We were taking quick shots. I think our patience at times became part of our defense. Our offense became part of our defense. We did a great job of moving the ball and everyone getting good looks. That’s how we play and when we’re doing that good things happen for our team.”
For Elon Ashanti Fox scored a game-high 17 points. Quinzia Fulmore scored 12 points and took down 13 rebounds. Tamia Watkins grabbed 15 boards.
Hofstra upset second-seeded Campbell in the quarterfinals.
