And yes it’s that time of year. Texas A&M, Georgia Tech and Michigan all came thisclose to making it. But there’s always next week. Now to the ones who actually did.
Louisville — These days few teams are losing to Clemson. Especially when you’re ranked and at home trying to make the ACC final and maybe the playoffs. But Clemson won by 1 despite going 1-for-13 on third downs.
South Florida — No great sin losing at Navy. By 3. But USF was favored by 10. Just sayin.
Duke — Speaking of which why were Blue Devils favored by 4 over No. 19 Virginia? They lost at home 34-17. It was 31-3 early in the fourth. So maybe Manny Diaz isn’t going to be the next Penn State coach after all.
Cincinnati — Hey, Arizona is good too. But Bearcats were favored by 5 at home. Lost by 6. It happens. Doesn’t make it tolerable.
Oregon State — Hey Beavers stink. But so does Tulsa. OSU was still a slight fave on road. Final was 31-14. It was 31-nada with 9 minutes to go.
Dishonorable Mention: Texas wasn’t supposed to win at Georgia. Doesn’t mean the Horns couldn’t have. Ask Oklahoma how that can work. Anyway it was 31-10. And didn’t the preseason No. 1 score only 7 in opening loss at Ohio State? This isn’t meant as just an Arch Manning thing. But they now have to beat unbeaten Texas A&M to have any shot at making the playoffs.
