Mike Kern’s Fraud Five

Which, by the way, will not include BYU, which as a two-point home favorite lost to Kansas on a late touchdown. Hey, it’s my list.
Louisville — Cards were ranked 19th, coming off a bye following an upset win over Clemson. They were three TD faves at Stanford, which had lost six straight. And they were up by 14 with 10 minutes to go. They lost, 38-35, on a walk-off field goal. Ugh. So, don’t you love the new ACC?
LSU — I know the game was at Florida, where you were only like a field goal fave. But the Gators scored 17 of the final 20 points, in the closing 18 minutes. It was Brian Kelly’s third straight loss. And he was caught hollering at one of his players on the sideline. And one was caught hollering at him. Not the kind of look you’re looking for, for a guy with a Southern accent who’s trying to win a national title.
Kansas State — I know Arizona State is one of the good stories this season. But you were ranked 16th, at home. And lost 24-14. It was 24-0 until late in the third period.
Washington State — New Mexico is another good story. But it still has a losing record, barely, after starting 0-4, and hadn’t beaten a ranked team in two decades. The Cougars were No. 18, and favored by two TDs. They also were leading by 14 at halftime. But the home team won by three, on a short run with 21 seconds remaining.
Navy — Really pains me to do this, to a military academy. And Tulane is really good. And your quarterback got injured during the game. But 35-0 at home? With 113 yards of offense? Maybe I’m overreacting but it just seemed at least a bit excessive. Besides, I needed a fifth team. Sorry.
