Washington Breaks Past the 2,000 Point Milestone in the 69 – 57 Drexel Win Over Hofstra
January 27, 2023 –
It went like this. Maura Hendrixson gets the ball to Keishana Washington. She puts up a three-pointer. It’s good with 26 seconds left in the first quarter. And with that Washington eclipses the 2,000 career-point mark, the second player in Dragons history to score over 2,000 points as a collegian.
“I felt the energy in the gym after I made the shot,” Washington said about reaching that scoring plateau. “I looked up at the scoreboard to see. I needed the eleven points and had eleven points. I did know that was the shot and it was even better that firm (Hendrixson) gave me the ball on that play.”
The Drexel guard is the ninth-player in CAA history to reach that mark, and presently is the 12th active player in the NCAA Division I to do so.
Washington scored a game-high 24 points. This is the 53rd consecutive game that she has scored in double-figures, and breaks the record previously held by Gabriela Marginean. She now has 2,014 points in her career.
Hendrixson handed out 11 assists, her 6th game where Hendrixson has reached double-digits in that category. But she will remember the assist on the key basket.
“I even said to Kei, can I please assist the two thousandth point?” said Hendrixson. “And she’s like ‘yeah’ and then it actually happened.”
The Dragons stand at 14 – 5 for the season and is 6 – 2 in the CAA. Drexel takes the floor on Sunday hosting Elon.
“I’m just really happy with the win tonight,” said Drexel Coach Amy Mallon. “Congratulations to Kei (Keishana) with two thousand points, but she knew she wouldn’t have done it without this one next to her (Hendrixson). They’re really a dynamic duo together.”
