Penn Winning Streak Reaches Eight Games Defeating #15/16 Cornell
The University of Pennsylvania extended their number of consecutive victories, and did so in dramatic fashion defeating nationally ranked Cornell in Ithica. Leo Burney scored the golden goal in the 89th minute. It gave Penn their first win over a ranked team in Ivy League play since beating Yale in 2019. The win is the 6th road win for the Quakers, the most since 1980. Stas Korzeniowski and Aaron Messer scored the other goals for the Red and Blue. Earlier in the week Penn beat Monmouth….The Temple Owls won over a Florida school for the first time this season defeating FAU 1 – 0 in the Sunshine State. It is their initial win in The American this year. Sean Karani got the goal in the 70th minute to end a five-game skid for the Owls….The Drexel Dragons played to a 1 – all tie with Monmouth. The draw pushed Drexel into a tie for fourth place with Charleston in the CAA standings, each having 11. Joshua Pulla scored at 21:55 to give the Dragons a lead. The Hawks tied it in the 70th minute…..The Saint Joseph’s Hawks had another tie, their seventh of the season which is a new program record for number of draws in a single season. Omry Perel scored in the 86th minute to even the score with Fordham. Earlier in the week Saint Joe’s fell 4 – 0 at Hofstra….The Villanova Wildcats were defeated twice over the week. Nova lost 2 – 0 at Butler, then battled Georgetown at home. The Wildcats rallied but could not overcome three first half goals by the Hoyas. Nova has dropped 4 of their last 5 conference games….The La Salle Explorers fell twice by two-goal margins. Lafayette won 3 – 1 at 20th and Olney and Loyola of Chicago emerged victorious 4 – 2. Nigel Buckley got his 6th of the season in Chicago at 12:01 which tied the game at one. The Ramblers netted the next three.
The upcoming week sees a Battle of 33rd Street as Penn visits Drexel. Villanova hosts UConn and Stony Brook visits Temple. La Salle plays a conference game at George Washington University. Saint Joe’s also travels down I-95 South for a game with Loyola (MD).

DREXEL 5 – 3 – 4 Overall, 3 – 2 – 2 CAA
Results – Tied 1 – 1 vs. Monmouth
Summary – Drexel celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the program. The Dragons got only 1 shot on goal, but made it count. The Hawks had 5 that required saves.
Next Game – October 18 vs. Penn at Vidas Field
LA SALLE 3 – 7 – 4 Overall, 2 – 2 – 2 Atlantic 10
Results – Lost 3 – 1 vs. Lafayette, Lost 4 – 2 at Loyola of Chicago
Summary – Rodio Giammarco got a goal at the 82:04 mark against Loyola. In the game the Explorers were outshot 22 – 10, and 15 – 3 on goal. Isak Sedin found the back of the net against Lafayette.
Next Game – October 22 at George Washington University
PENN – 9 – 1 – 1 Overall, 3 – 0 – 0 Ivy League
Results– Won 3 – 0 at Monmouth, Won 3 – 2 at #15/16 Cornell
Summary – Over the week Stas Korzeniowski scored a goal in each game while Ben Stitz and Isaac McGinnis found the back of the net at Monmouth. Burney connected on the game winner against the Big Red for his fourth goal of the season.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 2 – 5 – 7 Overall, 1 – 1 – 4 Atlantic 10
Results – Lost 4 – 0 at Hofstra, Tied 1 – 1 vs. Fordham
Summary – Hofstra scored in the 21st minute to break a scoreless streak of 248 minutes by Saint Joe’s. The four surrendered is the most in a game for the Hawks.
Next Game – October 18 at Loyola (MD)
TEMPLE 3 – 7 – 2 Overall, 1 – 5 – 0 AAC
Results – Lost 3 – 0 vs. FIU, Lost 1 – 0 vs. Memphis
Summary – Goalie Eoin Gawronski made six saves for his 6th career shutout. Temple was outshot by FAU 18 – 8.
Next Game – October 18 vs. Stony Brook at the Temple Sports Complex
VILLANOVA 5 – 6 – 2 Overall, 2 – 4 – 1 Big East
Results – Lost 2 – 0 at Butler, Lost 3 – 2 vs. Georgetown
Summary – The Wildcats battled back from a 3 – 0 halftime deficit against the Hoyas. Balthi Saunders had a goal and assisted on a goal by Branden Johns in the 89th minute. Over the week Villanova played competitive and was outshot 30 – 27. Both Nova and Georgetown registered 7 shots on goal.
