Sean Dolan Places 5th in NCAA Men’s 800 Meters

Villanova Runner Sets a Personal Best in the Event; Scores 4 Team Points for the Wildcats

Sean Dolan ran his best time in the 800 Meters and finished fifth in the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, OR. Dolan covered the distance with a time of 1:46.38. It was the third time he broke the 1:47 mark. His effort put 4 points on the board for the Villanova men’s team.

The Race

The Champion is Moad Zahafi of Texas Tech. Dolan finished just behind Zahafi in the semifinal heat. This time the titlist ran a time of 1:44.49. Dolan barely trailed the fourth place finisher Jason Gomez of Iowa State. In the first 400 meters Dolan was in the lead pack, but the race spread out more in the final lap. The Wildcat runner stayed within striking distance, but it was not enough, turning in splits of 51.49 and 54.89.

Upcoming Events

Villanova has a chance to score team points in the women’s events on Saturday. McKenna Keegan will run in the women’s 800 meters final where she has the second best time in the semifinal heats. Wildcats high jumper Sanaa Barnes will compete. She placed in this event last year. La Salle distance runner Liz Mancini is in the 5000 meters final. She is the fourth Explorer to compete in the national finals.
