Saint Joseph’s Seals a Post-Season Berth and Home Game, Villanova is in a Four-Way Tie for Fourth Place in the Big East Tying #18 Providence

The Saint Joseph’s Hawks earned the third seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Hawks get a home game against #6 Duquesne. Over the week Saint Joe’s played a pair of double-overtime games. They beat Navy 2 – 1. The A10 final regular season game was at Fordham. SJU came away with a 1 – all draw. Goalie Lars Haavie made 7 saves. Saint Joe’s had but one shot on goal, but made it count. The season ended for the La Salle Explorers, but did end it with two 4 – 1 road victories at Columbia and George Mason. Nigel Buckley led the way with natural hat trick in New York and added another goal in Virginia. The Villanova Wildcats are in a four-way tie for fourth place in the Big East. They did so by getting a hard-earned scoreless draw at #18 Providence. The Temple Owls dropped a pair of AAC games by a one-goal margin. Temple lost on the road at Memphis 2 – 1, then returned home to face #8 Tulsa. The Owls fell short 3 – 2. Temple tied the game on a Nigel Griffith goal at the 65:48 mark. Wyatt Takayoshi won the game just under two minutes later. The University of Pennsylvania Quakers fell 2 – 0 at Brown, who scored twice in the first half. The goals came within fiver minutes of one another. This was the second time since 2012 that a Penn – Brown game did not go into overtime. The Drexel Dragons lost 1 – 0 at JMU. The Dragons ended the regular season road schedule. They are still alive for a CAA Tournament berth.

Saint Joseph’s hosts a post-season game against #6 Duquesne on November 7. Drexel plays at home in their regular season final game against Delaware to decide their post-season fate. Villanova goes to Seton Hall in a game that may decide if Nova goes to the Big East Tournament. Penn goes to arch-rival Princeton. Temple travels to Florida to play USF. The Owls have a last chance to get conference win number-one.

Games of October 25 – October 31, 2021

DREXEL 7 – 7 – 1 Overall, 3 – 3 – 1 CAA

Results – Lost 1 – 0 at James Madison University

Summary – The Dragons and Dukes fought to a scoreless draw for 72 minutes. Drexel played a man-down when the game-winner was scored.

Next Game – November 6 vs. Delaware at Vidas Field

LA SALLE 6 – 10 – 0 Overall, 2 – 6 – 0 Atlantic 10                                                                                                                                       

Results – Won 4 – 1 at Columbia, Won 4 – 1 at George Mason

Summary – Goalie Brett Warner won his first two games of the season. In addition to Buckley the Explorers got goals from Omari Cotterell, Scott Beeks, Junior Nare, and Francis Gamiz Quer.

Next Game – The 2022 Season Opener

PENN – 7 – 4 – 3 Overall, 1 – 2 – 2 Ivy League      

Results– Lost 2 – 0 at Brown

Summary – The Red and Blue managed 5 only 5 shots, 2 by Stas Korzeniowski. Dane Jacomen saved 4 shots.

Next Game – November 6 at Princeton

SAINT JOSEPH’S  8 – 8 – 2 Overall, 5 – 2 – 1 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 2 – 1 (2 OT) vs. Navy, Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) at Fordham

Summary – The Hawks fell behind to the Midshipmen, but tied it early in the second half on a goal by Chris Hunt. Blake Driehaus won the game scoring on a corner kick by Aidan Watkins in the 102nd minute. Alex Hartmann scored the equalizer early in the game at Fordham. The Rams had 8 shots on goal to 1 for Saint Joe’s.

Next Game – November 7 vs. #6 Duquesne at Sweeney Field in the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinal round

TEMPLE 2 – 11 – 2 Overall, 0 – 9 – 0 AAC

Results – Lost 2 – 1 at Memphis, Lost 3 – 2 at #8 Tulsa

Summary – The Owls traveled to Memphis and evened it up when Kyle Hellmann scored in the 76th minute to tie it. The Tigers went back in front 1:10 later on an Artur DeLuca penalty kick. The Cherry and White seek their first American win, with one game to play. Andrew Burkhardt scored his first goal in the Tulsa game.

Next Game – November 5 at USF

VILLANOVA 9– 6 – 1 Overall, 4 – 4 – 1 Big East

Results – Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) at #18 Providence

Summary – Carson Williams made 9 saves and Nova needed all of them to get a tie against the Friars. Villanova put 2 shots on goal.

Next Game – November 3 at Seton Hall
