Saint Joseph’s Wins First Games this Season, Temple Downs Cincinnati Scoring 3 Straight Goals
Games of September 20 – 26, 2021
The Saint Joseph’s Hawks got into the win column for the first time this season winning 2 – 0 at Davidson and at home against Duquesne. On the road Alexa Peev had a goal and an assist on the goal by Natalie Nevins. The goals came within 6 minutes of each other. At home Katie Cappelletti made 6 saves and Ashley Orendac scored twice. They were her first collegiate goals. The Temple Owls scored three unanswered goals to down Cincinnati 3 – 2 to earn their initial win in the league, and remain unbeaten at home. Carly Steinberg put home the game-winner in the 88th minute. Emily Kavanaugh scored twice giving her 6 goals for the season. The Drexel Dragons dropped their first CAA game 1 – 0 at home against James Madison. Hannah Coulling scored for the Dukes in the 77th minute. The Dragons had 7 shots on goal, but none found the back of the net. The University of Pennsylvania Quakers travelled to Harvard to start their Ivy League schedule. The Quakers lost 3 – 0. The Quakers were outshot 23 – 5 and 14 – 3 on goal. The Crimson got the scoring started in the 9th minute. The Villanova Wildcats lost their first two Big East games of the season this week. They were beaten at home 2 – 1 by Seton Hall and 3 – 1 by Marquette. Against the Pirates all goals were scored in the second half with the game-winner by Laura Hooper got overt the line in the 88th minute. Regan Smith scored for Villanova. In the Golden Eagles game all goals came in the first half. The La Salle Explorers went on a two-game western Atlantic 10 road swing. They were beaten 3 – 0 at Dayton, then fell 2 – 0 at Saint Louis. Goal Keeper Jordynn Stallard made 19 saves over the weekend, saving a season-high 10 at Saint Louis
Conference games for the city schools continue. Temple continues a home stand against Tulsa. Penn has its first Ivy League home game as Cornell comes to University City. La Salle and Saint Joseph’s have home A10 games as the Hawks take on the Dayton Flyers and the Explorers host the Rhode Island Rams. Villanova goes to Xavier for a Big East battle. Drexel has a game at the College of Charleston.

Results – Lost 1 – 0 vs. JMU
Summary – Goal Keeper Miyuki Schoyen made 7 saves against JMU who put 11 on goal.

LA SALLE 2 – 6 – 2 Overall, 0 – 2 – 1 Atlantic 10
Results – Lost 3 – 0 at Dayton, Lost 2 – 0 at Saint Louis
Summary – La Salle was outshot in each game, a total of 37 – 12 and 24 – 8 on goal. Italia Gemelli had 2 goals and an assist for Dayton. Her first came in the 4th minute.

PENN – 5 – 2 – 2 Overall, 0 – 1 – 0 Ivy League
Results– Lost 3 – 0 at Harvard
Summary – Goal Keeper Laurence Gladu turned in a career-high 10 saves in Boston.
Next Game – October 2 vs. Cornell at Rhodes Field
SAINT JOSEPH’S 2 – 7 – 2 Overall, 2 – 1 – 0 Atlantic 10
Results – Won 2 – 0 at Davidson, Won 2 – 0 vs. Duquesne
Summary – The Hawks are on a two-game winning streak. Both wins were 2- 0 decisions. Goal Keeper Katie Cappelletti recorded her second shutout of the season and the fourth of her career.
Next Game – September 30 vs. Dayton at Sweeney Field
TEMPLE 3 – 3 – 3 Overall, 1 – 1 – 0 AAC
Results – Won 3 – 2 vs. Cincinnati
Summary – The Bearcats outshot the Owls 26 – 6 and 14 – 4 on goal. Temple goal keeper Kamryn Stablein saved 12 for a season-high. The 26 shots she faced were also tops this season. The Cherry and White have an even record in conference and overall.

VILLANOVA 6 – 4 – 0 Overall, 0 – 2 – 0
Results – Lost 2 – 1 vs. Seton Hall, Lost 3 – 1 vs. Marquette
Summary – Megan McClay made a season-high 7 saves against Seton Hall, then got 5 in the Marquette game. The Wildcats scored on a Golden Eagles ‘own goal’ for their score.
