August 11, 2020 –
The University of Massachusetts announced today that their 202 football season is cancelled. The Temple Owls were scheduled to play the Minutemen on October 10th. That game will not be played and that is the third game that is off the Owls schedule.
Temple was to open the season against Miami, but with the ACC schedule format the Hurricanes could play one non-conference game. Miami chose Alabama-Birmingham to be their out of league opponent. The game against Rutgers was off the schedule when the Big Ten opted for a conference-only schedule. Today, the conference suspended all fall sports, along with the PAC 12.
The American Athletic Conference schedule model has allowed for eight league games and four non-conference contests. The league opener for Temple is at Navy on September 26th.
The Owls contest against Idaho is still on the schedule. The Big Sky Conference, of which Idaho is a member, has postponed its football season. The league did allow for non-conference games at the discretion of the school.
