PhillyCollegeSports.com Player of the Week – Tyreek Duren, LaSalle – After scoring a carrer-high 29 points in the LaSalle win against Penn State, Duren followed that with a game winning jump shot against Northeastern with 1.2 seconds on the clock. The Junior guard aslo contributed 4 steals and 3 assists against Northeastern. The key player is not always the stat winner, timing plays a big part of their award,
Honor Roll: Ramon Galloway, LaSalle, Damion Lee, Drexel
LA SALLE 6 – 1 Overall, 1 – 0 Big Five
Results – Won 82 – 57 vs. Penn State at the Palestra, Won 66 – 64 at Northeastern
Summary –
LaSalle 82 Penn State 57 – The Explorers used the three-point shot effectively in beating Penn State. LaSalle made 16 on the game, none more important than the back to back threes by Tyreek Duren in the second half that gave his team a 17-point lead. Duren scored a career-high 29 points, 4 of 7 from deep. Sam Mills and Ramon Galloway each had 14 points.
LaSalle 66 Northeastern 64 – Tyreek Duren dropped a fade away jumper from 15 feet at the top of the key with 1.2 seconds remaining to lift LaSalle to the victory. Duren scored all 12 of his points in the second half. Ramon Galloway scored a game-high 24 points, 19 in the second half. Jerrell Wright added 13.
Duren was also named Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week and Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week.

PENN – 2 – 7 Overall, 0 – 1 Big Five
Results – Lost 68 – 55 vs. Villanova
Summary –
Villanova 68 Penn 55 – The Red and Blue got a game-high 16 points from Miles Cartwright who made 10 of 10 from the free throw line, but needed more as Penn drops its city series opener hosting Villanova. Steve Rennard added 12 points. The Quakers fell behind 14 – 2 to start the game. On the second half the gap was cut to four, but that was as close as they game would get for Penn. There were 52 fouls called in the game.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 5 – 2 Overall
Result – Won 67 – 55 at Coppin State
Summary –
Saint Joseph’s 67 Coppin State 55 – Following their loss to Creighton the Hawks looked to bounce back against the Eagles. It would not be easy. The game was tied at 42 with 13:30 to play. A three-point play by C.J. Aiken started a 14 – 4 Saint Joseph’s run resulting in a 56 – 46 lead with 7:41 on the clock. The Hawks would hold a double digit lead most of the way. Aiken scored 14 points, had 9 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. Carl Jones led Saint Joseph’s in scoring with 15 points. Chris Wilson fell just short of a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

TEMPLE 6 – 1 Overall, 1 – 0 Big Five
Results – Won 76 – 61 at Villanova, Lost 90 – 67 vs. #2 Duke at the Izod Center
Summary –
Temple 76 Villanova 61 – The Wildcats led at halftime 36 – 32, then Temple opened the second half with a 16 – 2 run to take control. The Owls have a 6 game winning streak. Scootie Randall had a game-high 21 points. Anthony Lee scored a career-high 16 points. Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson contributed 7 assists.
#2 Duke 90 Temple 67 – The Owls dropped their first game of the season in Newark against #2 Duke by a wide margin. Duke came into the game ranked second in the nation, and Temple found out why. In the first half Duke went on a 16- 4 run to take a 29 -14 lead. In the second half Temple cut the lead to 12 points. Leading by a score of 72 – 60 with 3:28 to play the Blue Devils scored the next 11 points to send the contest. Quenton DeCosey led The Cherry and White in scoring with a career-high 13 points. Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson played an active game getting a career-high in blocks with three, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals to go along with six points.

VILLANOVA 5 – 4 Overall, 1 – 2 Big Five
Results – Lost 76 – 61 vs. Temple, Won 68 – 55 at Penn
Summary –
Temple 76 Villanova 61 – The Wildcats held a 36 – 32 lead at halftime, but were victims of a 16 – 2 run by Temple at the beginning of the second half. Turnovers were a problem for Villanova committing 20. James Bell led the Wildcats with 15 points. Tony Chennault had double figures with 10.
Villanova 68 Penn 55 – The Wildcats got off to a fast start scoring 14 of the first 16 points of the game. The Wildcats used dominant inside play outscoring the Quakers 20 – 6 in points in the paint. Villanova won the rebounding battle 40 – 28. Three Wildcat forwards scored in double figures. Achraf Yacoubou scored a team high 13 points. JayVaughn Pinkston and Moutphtaou Yarou scored 10 each. Ryan Arcidiacono had 12 points.
Next Game – 12/11 vs. Saint Joseph’s
DREXEL 3 – 6 Overall
Results – Lost 76 – 66 at Tennessee State, Won 64 – 57 at Princeton
Summary –
Tennessee State 76 Drexel 66 – The Dragons trailed 36 – 30 at halftime as TSU hit 52% from the floor, 50% for the game. Drexel turned up the defense in the second half. With the game tied at 57 with 4:03 to play, TSU went on a 7 – 0 run to put the game away. Drexel outrebounded TSU 40 – 30, but only had a 17 – 8 edge in 2nd Chance points. Damion Lee led Drexel with 18 points. Daryl Mc Coy recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Frantz Massenat scored 15 points and gave out 7 assists.
Drexel 64 Princeton 57 – The Dragons fought back from a 13 point deficit in the first half. By limiting Princeton to just one field goal over the last 8:17 of the game the Dragons earned the win. The Tigers tied the game at 57 in two free throws by Will Barrett, but that was the last points they would score. Damion Lee put the Dragons ahead for good with a jumper with 2:10 on the clock. Lee scored 21 points to lead Drexel.
