Philadelphia, Pa. 8/24/2012 The Drexel field hockey team upset No. 5 Duke, 1-0, in the 2012 season opener at Buckley Field on Friday night. The Dragons outshot Duke, 12-10, while the Blue Devils earned 14 penalty corners to Drexel’s seven.

Sophomore midfielder Meghan Plank broke a scoreless tie in the 50th minute of the game. Plank charged down the left side of the field after receiving a pass from teammate Lindsay McArdle and fired a shot past Duke’s goalkeeper Lauren Blazing’s right outstretched arm.

Duke looked to put pressure on the Dragons’ defense in the final minutes of the game, but Drexel’s goalkeeper Jantien Gunter came up with two lunging saves off of the Blue Devil’s corners. Gunter made five stops in her opening debut and first career victory for Drexel.
